The Global Compact is a United Nations initiative launched in 2000 to encourage companies all over the world to adopt a socially responsible attitude. Signing the Global Compact is a voluntary initiative by the company. Legrand has been applying the guiding principles of the Global Compact since 2007.

Human Rights
Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
Principle 2: Companies are invited to make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Work standards
Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
Principle 4: The elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour.
Principle 5: The effective abolition of child labour.
Principle 6: The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
Principle 7: Businesses are asked to apply a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
Principle 8: Businesses are invited to undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
Principle 9: Businesses are invited to favour the development and distribution of environment-friendly technologies.
Action against corruption
Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
The Global Compact invites member companies to adopt, support, and implement, within their sphere of influence, a set of basic principles in the field of human rights, workplace standards, environmental standards, and action against corruption. These principles are based on a universal consensus arising from:

- The International Labour Organisation Declaration concerning fundamental rights at work,
- The Rio Declaration on the Environment and Development,
- The United Nations Convention against Corruption.
