IOT AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Enhancing the user experience with artificial intelligence
In a technological breakthrough that cannot be ignored, artificial intelligence is opening up new perspectives and promises to revolutionize our lifestyles and everyday habits. Legrand is convinced that AI will significantly enhance the experience of both installers and end users, and is closely studying voice recognition, image recognition and self-learning technologies among others.
Bringing intelligence to Legrand’s solutions
In France and Italy, Legrand is doing future-oriented work aimed at enabling users to conduct remote diagnostics of systems and even anticipate faults. The challenge: use a chatbot type virtual assistant to make life easier for building occupants and users. Another example of augmented intelligence incorporated into some of Legrand’s solutions is image recognition. This can now be integrated into video door entry systems, enabling face recognition to be offered as a mode of access control. The move gives video door entry systems a whole new dimension: with AI they can not only see but also recognize visitors, making buildings more secure.
With IVANI, the switch anticipates user behavior
In the United States, Legrand is working on a behavior anticipation project with its technology partner Ivani. The principle is simple: by observing the consumer’s behavior, the switch anticipates his or her routine. And Ivani offers presence detection, not just movement detection. There are many potential applications for this product, in housing, security systems, hotels, commercial buildings and more.
Connecting third party artificial intelligence services to Legrand’s solutions
Legrand’s initial work with artificial intelligence involves image recognition and voice control, offering very real user benefits. After Apple and Siri, Amazon and Alexa, Google and Cortana—already Legrand’s partners—the Group is now also working with Samsung and its new assistant. This means that Eliot solutions are interoperable with the main voice assistants now on the market, allowing users to enjoy the ease of using voice control at home.
In line with changing habits, Legrand is also working on innovative projects, making it possible to imagine a whole new relationship between users and connected buildings.
Towards a self-learning building
In yet another example of Legrand's strategy of openness, the Group is working with the start-up Craft AI, which brings an artificial intelligence dimension to the smart building. With Craft AI technology, it is possible to imagine a building that “learns” on its own from users’ habits, by aggregating data from connected products inside the building.
